Great day
Despite the previous blog, this week started with 1st march, beautiful blue skies and nets full of birds at two of our feeding stations. A total of 80 new birds ringed, with an astonishing 50 new Redpoll! There were 5 Siskin, 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, and the rest made up of a good variety of species--with remarkably only 1 Blue Tit.
The only disappointment is that there are lots of Siskin in the area, but for some reason we aren't catching them--perhaps there is still a lot of their preferred natural food--Alder and Birch seed in the adjacent woodland.
