Last sessions before Christmas
Two seperate sessions were held today in very different parts of Stafforshire. A small team had a try at one of the reedbeds at Belvide for Reed Buntings at roost. 10 new birds with 3 retraps were caught--which leaves us wondering why it is that at the last 3 sessions we have had almost the same total catch and new birds/retrap ratio. It appears that we have a movement through our patch with a few birds hanging on.
The second group tackled a garden feeding station in the north of the county--the first session at this feeder this year. An impressive 109 new birds were ringed, mainly Blue and Great tits as expected--but 15 Robins, 8 Blackbirds, a Great Spot Pecker, 2 Nuthatch, a Wren and a Marsh tit made for an interesting and informative session for the trainees ringers who were there.
