You will have seen previous blogs which have commented on the lack of Goldcrests this year--not only on our patch, but across the country. It was with a mixture of surprise and delight therefore, when one of our local ringing friends found a male Firecrest in a net a couple of weeks ago--only to follow up with a second Firecrest-female-last weekend! Just shows that you can never know what might turn up--it's mostly very predictable, but every now and then something like this makes you realise why you go out into the freezing cold rather than sitting in front of a nice warm fire.
